Tasting notes

Deep ruby in the glass, this wine opens with layered aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and subtle spice. The palate is structured and polished, showing ripe dark fruit, cassis, tobacco leaf, and hints of dark chocolate and violet. Firm tannins and vibrant acidity give it excellent balance and length, while a mineral, savory edge adds depth. Elegant yet powerful, it finishes with lingering notes of spice, oak, and fresh black fruit.

Viticulture

Château Cos d'Estournel is a renowned vineyard in Bordeaux, located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary. Known as one of the great estates of the Médoc, it produces elegant, powerful, and long-lived wines that reflect the character of its gravelly and clay-rich terroir. The château is famous for its distinctive architecture, with exotic pagoda-style towers that make it immediately recognizable. Its vineyards are planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Château Cos d'Estournel is widely respected for its balance of richness, structure, and finesse, and it is ranked among the top growths of Bordeaux.

Oenology

Château Cos d’Estournel, situated in Saint-Estèphe in the Bordeaux region, is one of the Médoc’s most distinctive and prestigious estates. Its oenology is centered on the pursuit of power, elegance, and longevity, with a style that reflects the gravelly, well-drained soils of the estate and the nearby Gironde estuary, which helps moderate temperatures and promote slow, even ripening. The vineyard is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, and smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, allowing the blend to combine structure, depth, and aromatic complexity. The wines are known for their intense dark fruit character, refined tannins, freshness, and remarkable aging potential. Precision in the vineyard, meticulous sorting, and carefully managed fermentations are essential to preserving purity and concentration. Aging typically takes place in French oak barrels, adding subtle spice, texture, and complexity without overpowering the fruit. The result is a full-bodied, layered, and age-worthy wine that expresses both the power of Saint-Estèphe and the finesse associated with the great classified growths of Bordeaux.
